Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Awards recognize Cuixmala in the area of CONSERVATION. Pictured below is a recent photo of a young jaguar, proof of Cuixmala’s successful conservation efforts.
Chamela’s Bird Island is one of the islands in Chamela Bay that Cuixmala has established as a protected bird sanctuary. Among the birds on the island is the Blue-footed Booby, a bird that was observed by Charles Darwin on his trip to the Galapagos.
The island is a nesting place for the Booby.
The very exotic Roseate spoonbill is one of the highlights of birdwatching at Cuixmala. The mangroves around the lagoons provide an ideal nesting location for these colorful birds. With bright pink feathers reminiscent of a Flamingo, these large water birds are often spotted by guests when touring the lagoon. Read more
